Hi! My name is Rob Davies, a man with a passion for writing, gambling, the internet and junk food. Growing up in Bath, gambling was something that we did often. My friends and I would bet real money on our makeshift poker games, and by the time we reached university, we were gambling against each other online.

My Career

I sometimes compare the online gambling to sugar: you take it in little by little and savour the taste, but you don’t stop at once or twice. Gambling was already a part of my teenage years, so it was not a decision that surprised me. As a journalist, I wanted to write about one field that had endless topics, and it would surprise you that there are so many aspects to playing casino games online today.

Just when you think you know all about gambling online, a new trend, revised laws or best-selling game emerges, and you have something new to write about. This is why I decided to go for online gambling: the novelty. There’s always something new to look forward to, which means I can keep refilling the ink in my pen.

The online gambling industry is just like every other industry in the market; it requires constant learning and dedicated journalists behind it. I enjoy being one of these journalists.

My Experience and Education

I am an experienced journalist as I graduated from LSE in 2015. Since then, I worked for different papers and magazines before settling on the gambling industry. I started my career in the online gambling industry by writing about the laws and history, but I soon settled on a specific branch, and that is problem gambling.

As for my experience in online gambling, I guess you can say that I have the experience of a lifetime. Since I was already used to gaming on my mobile phone, it wasn’t challenging to write about what I did a lot. I started my online casino career with poker games and sharpened my skills through different poker tournaments and online tutorials. Then, I moved on to baccarat and blackjack. Now, it’s safe to say I’ve played a little bit of any casino game you can think of.

Using my experience and education in journalism, I am currently focused on the causes, effects, prevention and regulation of problem gambling. With the recent UKGC laws making the Gamstop Self-Exclusion Scheme compulsory, I have found a new aspect of problem gambling to focus on.

I have also written a wide range of topics on this platform concerning gambling right and the dangers of problem gambling.

Industry Events & Contributions

I always strive to broaden my experience by keeping up with the latest trends in the industry and going to various events associated with gambling. In 2025, I took part in ICE London, SBS Summit Barcelona, and SIGMA Europe. These are among the most prominent conferences in the iGaming world, and I’m glad I had the chance to be there.

Each of these has expanded my knowledge, particularly on problematic gambling, UKGC regulations and updates, and the role and effectiveness of various self-exclusion tools. Such events help me become better at what I do because, rather than relying only on research for my texts, I combine investigation with first-hand experience.

What is your opinion of the GamStop?

I think it’s a good idea, especially now that all licensed casinos must allow it. It shows that those making the rules are aware of the extremities, and it gives problem gamblers an escape from their addiction. If you think you need a break from gambling, it’s the right choice to make.

What's your favourite casino game?

Poker will always be the casino game that touches my heart even though I enjoy playing all others. This is probably because it’s the first one I learnt how to play. After poker, I think baccarat is snagging second place lately, and part of the reason is that it’s a game for royalty. And for other games William Terry supports me with his expertise.

What is a major ‘don’t’ for new players?

Don’t bet with your credit card. It seems like a good idea at first, but anyone can be prone to online gambling, and so you never know when you end up knee-deep in credit card debt because of gambling. Luckily, the new UKGC laws are moving to remove credit cards from casinos.

How is the gambling industry going to change in some years?

Positively, I think it would change in the aspect of outreach. More and more countries and states will make gambling legal, and more people will play. Looking at problem gambling today, I think it’s going to cause a real change in the industry as time goes on.

What is your favourite aspect of gambling online?

The convenience! When I feel like gambling, I plop myself down on the couch, pull out my phone and open my online casino site. Gaming online brings the excitement and anticipation of gambling to me, wearing sweats in my living room.
